At the Tuesday, August 14, meeting we had discussed a possible Field Trip to the University of Pittsburgh Library Archives Service Center, located in the Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh. Their address is 7500 Thomas Boulevard, Pittsburgh 15208.
I spoke to David Grinell, who is the Archivist. He was a bit concerned that they could not handle a group the size of ours, but I told him, at this time, we would be interesting in the Archives, what were the holdings and tips on researching there.
We will meet there on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at 9 AM What we will do first is meet with David in a meeting room where he will tell us about the history of the Archives, their holdings and their digital holdings and the how to use the digital archives.
We are meeting earlier because of the time constraints with our personal schedules. I also told him our group usually met for about two hours. With their limited space I hope to have this sort of a "fact finding" visit. If all goes well, we should feel comfortable to go and research on our own.
